Foundations of Freedom
Foundations of Freedom
On July 4, 1776, two hundred forty-nine years ago, the Continental Congress in Philadelphia issued the Declaration of Independence announcing the 13 American colonies were separating from British rule. This document was issued in the early stages of the Revolutionary War and America finally achieved its official independence from England in 1783. The idea that every human being has inalienable rights, granted by God
and which should be protected by the government is reflected in the Declaration of Independence and later written into the Constitution of the United States, which took effect in 1789. This individual freedom from governmental tyranny is what has made the United States the greatest country that has ever existed and the reason people from all over the world want to live here.
The Book of Galatians has been called the Declaration of Independence for believers. As the American colonies declared their freedom from British rule, Galatians declares believers have been liberated from sin by Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. We are no longer slaves to sin, and we do not have to succumb to performance- based Christianity to impress people or God. Over the next seven weeks we will be studying Galatians, which explains the foundation of our freedom in Christ. Following are the tentative message titles and dates:
