The Israelites in Samuel's time began to wish they were like other people. People who had a king. Little did they recognize, they had the perfect king. God was their King. In their desire to be like the world, they rejected God, despite Samuel's warnings about the power and cost of an earthly king. But God will give them their wish in a faulty King.
